In October 2018, the new laws on marijuana came into effect, making it perfectly legal for Canadians to buy and use marijuana as a recreational drug. However, the US Federal Government has recently said that it may issue a lifetime ban on entering the US for EVERYONE who uses marijuana, or that works in the marijuana industry, or that even just invest in it!
So here in Canada, should we be concerned with all the marijuana that will be sold and smoked every year? Maybe we should. A medical imaging procedure (called a PET scan) has been used to demonstrate the scary results of a heavy marijuana user (see photo).
The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease published results after studying the imaging of 1, 000 marijuana users’ brains that showed obvious differences in blood flow levels of people who used marijuana, and those who didn’t. The report says that marijuana “affects a region of the brain that controls working memory, impulsive behaviour, and attention-span”. In other words, heavy use can lead to ‘zombie-ism’. But think about it: wouldn’t even ‘mild’ usage have some sort of an effect on people’s brains??
What about us who won’t use the drug? Will the sale and use of marijuana affect us? Maybe yes. Some believe that legal marijuana in Canada will bring an “increase in automobile deaths and accidents”. ‘Mothers Against Drunk Driving’ did a careful study on alcohol-related automobile deaths in Canada and found that an average of 1, 500 Canadians are killed and 63, 000 injured every year. How marijuana will change these figures is anyone’s guess. However, one thing seems certain: while a small percentage are ‘getting rich’ off marijuana, it will be at the expense of the health and lives of the Canadian people! Is there no hope? Maybe there is. Pray for Canada! Pray for our law-makers and pray for the sinners to be saved!
