People Who Saved the World

Recently, the Vancouver Sun Online carried a video entitled, “Ten People Who Saved the World”.  Here are a couple of excerpts from that video.

People who saved the world 1

November 13, 1907, 25-year-old Jesus García was working on a train that was hauling a carload of dynamite.  As it was stopped in the mining town of Nacozari, Sonora, México, he noticed that the car with the dynamite had caught fire.  Immediately, García drove the train in reverse downhill at full-steam six kilometres out of the town before the dynamite exploded, killing him and sparing the population of the town.

People who saved the world 2

In 1954, an 18-year-old young Australian man, named James Harrison, donated blood and was later told that his blood contained an unusually strong and persistent antibody that could help save newborn babies that had Hemolytic Disease.  Harrison continued to donate his blood and has made 1,200 donations, which have helped save the lives of 2.4 million babies.  They call him, the man with the golden arm.

People who saved the world 3

Ryan Hreljac of Ontario, Canada, was 6-years-old when he decided he wanted to raise money to help provide clean water for people in Africa.  Ryan started doing household chores and in 4 months had raised $70.  Within 12 months he had raised $2,000 and sent this to help drill the first well in Northern Uganda.  In 2 more years, he raised $61,000 and started the ‘Ryan’s Well Foundation’.  Since then it’s raised millions of dollars and brought clean water to more than 900,000 people in 16 developing countries.

And one more story of someone who saved the world: Jesus Christ.  Two thousand years ago, God came to earth, and His name was Jesus Christ.  He willingly died on the cross, and rose the 3rd day, to pay for our sins and provide us with a way to be saved.  Since then, Soul Winners have taken this Good News of salvation all over the world.

Every year, we celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the salvation that He offers to whosoever will.  Oh, what a Saviour!

1Cor. 15:3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
