When Moses encountered God in the burning bush, God told Moses that He would send him unto Pharaoh that he may bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt. Five times Moses answered God with lame excuses that he could not perform the command of God. But God answered all Moses’ arguments and gave him two demonstrations of His powers in Exodus 4:2-7 – His shepherd’s rod temporarily became a snake and his right hand temporarily became leprous.
God asked Moses, “What is that in thine hand?” A question that he probably did not expect from God. He was probably thinking that he had no extra-ordinary power or possession that can match Pharaoh. It’s true! He had no power or possession to match the most powerful person in the world during that time, but God did ask Moses about what he did NOT possess? No, God asked him, “What is THAT in thine hand?”
Often, we Christians make a lot of excuses on the call of God in our lives. We often think that if only we can have this or that, we can serve God better in our Christian lives, but God is only asking us, “What is THAT in thine hand?” God does not ask what we do NOT have.
We say, “I am not capable of doing this…” but the Bible says, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13). We say, “I don’t know how to be a soul winner, but the Bible says, “But ye shall receive power…” (Acts 1:8) (and there’s also Soul Winner’s Academy that can help to train you). We say, “I am not able to give for the Lord…” but the Bible says, “But my God shall supply all your need…” (Philippians 3:19).
God is looking for a willing heart who will carry the gospel to the lost, and who will serve Him faithfully. What is THAT in thine hand? Don’t promise God for something you do NOT have, but give him everything that you DO have.
2 Corinthians 8:12 “For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.”
