What’s Happening to Popular
Christian Leaders These Days?

Lately, there has been quite a rise in popular Christian leaders; men and women who write famous books and pastor mega churches.  They influence thousands of Christian followers.  And yet, we are seeing a disturbing trend happening… many are falling into gross sin and some are even renouncing Jesus Christ.

Down in Oklahoma, a 47-year-old pastor’s wife (and her secret lover) shot and killed her pastor-husband!

Recently, Christian author, Paul Maxwell, who has a Ph.D. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and was a philosophy professor at Moody Bible Institute, along with being a prolific writer at the famous www.desiring god.org website, has just announced that he’s no longer a Christian.

The husband-and-wife pastoral team who founded a Miami-based megachurch are in the middle of a messy divorce and they are fighting over $120 million dollars.

In 2020, Jon Steingard was a contemporary Christian music leader, amongst young people, with a Canadian Christian rock band called Hawk Nelson, posted on social media saying “I no longer believe in God”.

In 2019, Christian author, Joshua Harris, who wrote the Christian best-seller entitled, “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” recently posted on Instagram, “I’m not a Christian”.

Also in 2019, Dave Gass, the 20-year pastor of megachurch ‘Grace Family Fellowship’ in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, after having read through the Bible 24 times and having memorized 18 Books of the Bible, suddenly announced he was walking away from the Christian faith.

Also in 2019, Marty Sampson, a worship music writer, singer, and active member of Hillsong has publicly denounced his faith on social media.

Some people are wondering if this is part of the great falling away, spoken of by Paul in 2 Thess. 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

The answer is, ‘maybe’, but we don’t know for certain.  But one thing we do know is that in recent years, and especially in the last 12 months, we have never seen more turmoil and trouble in the world and in the Christian ministry as we are seeing these days!  It’s enough to make us cry out, “Even so, come Lord Jesus!”

HOWEVER, we DO KNOW that Jesus NEVER fails!  And when we are IN Jesus we are on the Winning Side!  No matter WHAT happens in this world.

So, perhaps the BEST advice we can get is in 1Co 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
