The Hero Who Was Rewarded With Crumbs

What would YOU do if you were on an airplane, 35,000 feet in the air, and a drunken man tried to open the door of the plane?  Such was the case with Nigel Dilks (pictured left) and Christopher Bowles.  But before I continue, let me say that sometimes a hero, who saves the day, is never properly recognized for their bravery.

The plane was flying from Turkey to Manchester, England as Mr. Bowles drank himself into a drunken rage and started saying he was going to kill everyone, then tried to open the door of the plane.  Mr. Nigel Dilks rushed to stop Bowles, wrestling him to the ground and sitting on him for 45 minutes till the plane landed.

You would think that the airline would show their appreciation of Nigel Dilks for his bravery to save a plane-load of people, but instead, the airline, which is called ‘Jet2.com Limited’, having 13,000 employees, offered Nigel a free coffee and a shortcake biscuit!  Life isn’t always fair.

Sometimes a missionary will give his life in service of the Lord, leaving the comforts of home, and will put up with the ‘slings-and-arrows’ of a hostile people in order to win some of them to Christ.  And when he comes home on furlough, he finds that some of his supporting churches have dropped his support, and the people, who once promised to pray for him, have forgotten all about him.  No, this life isn’t always fair.

But God never forgets His hero-missionaries who live and serve by faith, and neither should we forget them.

Heb 11:32-39 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

Let’s thank God for ALL of His missionary heroes, and let’s do all we can to support as many of them as possible.
