The Amazing Story of Darrin Ray
Darrin Ray was born with a cleft pallet, which deformed part of his face. He then endured years of surgeries and bullying, and he often wondered why God allowed him to suffer. But Darrin was raised in a Bible-believing home and was able to endure.
When he grew up, Darrin got a decent job; he married and had a 3-year-old daughter, and he even became a deacon in his church. Life was good.
But then, one Sunday in 2006, while driving to church, a drunk driver smashed into Darrin, leaving him close to death. Both his legs were crushed, battery acid covered his arms, and he was bleeding to death. Paramedics had to use the Jaws of Life to get him out of the car. They got him to the hospital where he spent a month, but he had to have his right foot amputated, and then he required years of reconstructive surgeries.
Darrin was filled with anger towards the drunk driver, so he spent a lot of time close to God. In Mt. 6:12, he read Jesus’ words, “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors,” and then in verse 14, “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
Darrin didn’t feel like forgiving the man, but he knew it was what God wanted him to do. So, he prayed, “Lord, I don’t want to forgive. Help me to do what you want.”
At the court hearing, Darrin went before the judge and asked him to forgive the amount of money that the drunken man owed his family. The judge looked at him and asked, “Why do you want to forgive this man that debt?” Darrin looked at that judge and told him, “Because I have a Saviour that forgave me. He paid my debts that I could never repay.”
This story about Darrin Ray needs no commentary, other than he got the victory by FAITH.
