Arthur Medici (photo) was born & raised in Brazil and came to the U.S. 2 years ago to go to college. The handsome 26 y/o was fond of playing on the Atlantic Ocean waves, off Cape Cod, using a small surfboard, called a ‘boogie board’. Recently, Arthur’s aunt warned him about the strong possibility of sharks in that area of the ocean, to which Arthur replied, “Sharks don’t bite me; I’m Superman!”
On Saturday, September 15, Arthur was having fun in the ocean waves when a shark bit into his legs, severing his femoral arteries. By the time Arthur was rushed to the hospital, he was dead. Even Superman was vulnerable to an attack of kryptonite.
Did you know that even Samson in the Bible thought he was Superman (so-to-speak), until he got mixed up with a woman called ‘Delilah’? I wonder how many thousands more ‘Supermen’ will one day wake up to be drug addicts in need of medical help all because they thought marijuana was harmless, only to find that it wetted their appetite for stronger drugs?
Is it any wonder the Bible says, Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall?
God warns Christians not to get close to the world; not to fill our hearts and heads with worldly pleasures. Someone asks “Why,” They say “Doesn’t the Bible assure us, Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world? Yes it does, but it ALSO warns us in 1Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
We can certainly learn from the mistakes of others.
